Food for your six month old baby

Congratulation!!! Completing six months is not less than a milestone. Now the time has come to introduce your baby to the world of flavors.

Six month is special for both baby and you as a mother, baby who is going to get the flavors of different food and as a mother to think about with which solid food you should start with.

Instead of jumping on solids directly, start with liquid and semi solids then slowly move towards on completely solid. In liquid, juices like apple juice, pomegranate juice, lentil soup, rice water is very healthy. My baby loved apple juice, I use to always taste it before giving to baby because as you know sometimes apple are sour too.You can also try purees like boiled apple and pear or mashed form of food like potato and sweet potato. Although salt is not recommended before one year but if baby not eating you can add it in very minimal amount and try out your luck.

Every mom wants her child to be healthy that's why she thinks about many options for baby's food. But we need to understand one thing that food is new to your baby, so it's completely alright if he doesn't like any particular food or not taking food properly in starting days. Give your little one some time to understand this and start enjoying his food on his own. And keep experimenting to know your baby's favourite flavor and must follow three day wait rule that I have explained in my previous blog.

We usually reduce the frequency of breast milk or formula milk as soon as we start giving semi-solids to babies. Don't do this. Keep on feeding him atleast till to one year or one and half year. I fed my child for two years. As my doctor said after two years bm role isn't counts.

Babies might face constipation in starting days of introduction of semi-solids. You not need to get worried just keep him hydrated by giving water frequently which helps in avoiding constipation too. You can also try pear juice for the same.

  5. Soups or vegetable purees: are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber that are essential for the correct development of the baby. Some examples of vegetables that can be given are pumpkin, potato, carrot, sweet potato, zucchini, cauliflower, chuchu and onion. In addition, the soup or puree should be made without using salt, adding 1 teaspoon of olive oil after the preparation is ready.

Fruit purée: Accoridng to Houston pediatrician, shaved or crushed fruits should be given to the baby in the morning or afternoon snacks, and you can also offer cooked fruits, but always without adding sugar. Some good fruits to start baby's solid nutrition are apple, pear, banana and papaya.

Mingaus: Mingaus should be done according to the advice of the pediatrician or nutritionist, following the dilution indicated on the label. Cereals, flours and starch mingaps can be given using sources such as corn, rice, wheat and cassava. In addition, you should not avoid giving your baby gluten, as contact with gluten decreases the chances of food intolerance in the future.
