Healthy Diet for New Moms



After delivering your baby, you have someone who is ready to grab all your attention all the time. But along with spending quality time with your little one you need to take care of yourself and more importantly your diet. Because whatever you eat, will directly go to your baby through your milk.

After delivery thought of getting back in shape must be chasing you but there is something more important than this, i.e your baby's health. If you are taking all the nutrients in your diet it will make your baby healthy and even helps in healing your body after delivery more faster.


Here are some nutrient rich food items and different ways how you can add them in your diet.


Turmeric

It is known for healing internal and external wounds. In India it is used in everyday cooking and even dishes made out of turmeric has been given to ladies after delivery since a long time. It relieves mother from pain and stress and even reduces the chance of any infection. 

To add it in your diet either you can add it in your food items or make halva.For halva roast turmeric with ghee and after sometime add all dry fruits as per your taste. Cook till turmeric get cooked completely) You can keep it in refrigerator also and enjoy three or four spoons daily.

Legumes

Red masoor dal helps in breastmilk production. Iron rich beans like kidney and black beans are also good for breastfeeding mothers. You can add moong dal too in your diet as it is easy to digest.

You can take these lentils either in the form of halwa (moong halwa) or kichdi.


Ghee

Ghee and lots of ghee is given to ladies after delivery. Ghee provide strength which is very much needed after delivery. You can add ghee in variety of Indian foods like dal, rice or roti.

Ajwain

You can take ajwain to prevent gas and indigestion problems.

You can consume it by adding it in your paratha or simply add it in your meal as a seasoning. Another way is to just roast and grind to make powder and take one spoon along with lukewarm water in the morning.


Vegetables and Fruits

Don't forget to take vegetables and fruits, as they provide healthy carbohydrate that gives you energy. And energy is very much needed to take care of your baby and yourself. Don't just be mom, be a super mom of your little one.

Dairy products

Dairy products help meet your increased calcium need. Milk is most important when you are breastfeeding. Other option include egg and paneer.

Fat rich foods
Healthy fats helps in breastmilk production. For this you should include almonds, walnuts, avacado, fatty fish like Salmon. Don't eat fish more than twice in a week because of the presence of mercury in them. Mercury level is very low in Salmon.
You should avoid taking higher fat milk, butter and fast food.


Water
You should increase your water intake when you are breastfeeding to keep your milk production up for your baby. You can vary your fluid intake and can take coconut water or any other fruit juices. Rice water is also known for increasing milk production.

    There are many effective ways to improve oral health. Such as, brush your teeth twice in a day on a regular basis, dental floss is also an important habit, and avoid acidic foods.
