Baby massage - A strong bond between you and your little one

Now your little one is in your arms, you must be feeling that can't be described by words. After delivery you world revolves around him. Every mother wants to give her best to his child. One of the best thing that gives so many benefits to your child is gentle Massage.

Massaging your baby is very important part in taking care of him.
It gives many benefits to our babies like it make them relax, help them in sleep well, improve weight gain, help in digestion and blood circulation. And most importantly it develop a stronger bond between a mother and her child.

Baby massage can last from ten minutes to half an hour and it should be soothing and comfortable for your baby. Don't start the massage before or after you feed your baby.

So lets see the steps how mother and her baby can enjoy massage to its fullest and develop a strong and lovely bond.

1. Is your baby ready for massage?

Move your hands slowly on your baby from his face to feet, this will tell you whether baby is ready for massage or not. Second way is to place your both palm on his chest and shake a little bit.
It is a good way to make your baby feel secure and enjoy his mother's touch.

2. Legs

Hold baby's thigh and with your hands moving opposite to each other slowly squeeze and twist all the way down to his ankle. Do it like this for five or six times. After this, do massage starting from the ankle up to the thigh and over the hip.
Ankle also need little massage. For the little baby's feet, use your thumb to simply roll out each of his toe nicely.

3.Upper body massage

Now let's take some more oil on your hands and rub them together and place it on little one's chest and make heart shape by moving your hand upto his shoulder and then down to his tummy. Repeat it for five six times and then move your hand from shoulder down towards his wrist.

To release gas move your hand over his stomach like paddle one hand following the other. Or hold your baby's leg under the knee and gently press it towards the tummy to help baby expel gas.

4. Face massage

For this don't take more oil on your hand, whatever little oil is there in your hand will be fine. Put your both thumb on the middle of his forehead and then slowly move it over his eyebrows. Like this you can massage around baby's mouth which is very soothing when baby is teething. And then with little circles massage his cheeks in circular motion. Like on cheeks you can give massage on his head too.

5.Back massage

Last but not least... back massage, turn over the baby on his stomach. Either lay down the baby over the pillow or across your legs. If your baby is very young lying him across your legs would be more comfortable.
Start by rubbing oil back and forth across your baby's back moving slowly up and down of his back. After doing it few times, take one hand and move it firmly from neck to his waist.

Few tips

  • Best oil for baby massage is coconut oil but olive and mustard oil is also fine.Mustard oil is quite strong so need to be taken in small amount while massaging.
  • Be gentle when you give massage to your bundle of joy. Just remember oil just need to be absorb by the body so don't give more pressure on the baby's body.
  • If the weather is hot in your area then sometimes instead of oil your can give lotion massage to the baby and apply baby powder after it.

A gentle massage develops a strong bond between mother and baby.
